Thai Airways International (THAI), Southeast Asia’s premier global airline, this year celebrates 50 years of welcoming international visitors to Thailand and the region, treating them to an experience of Thai culture that’s as unique and authentically Thai as the airline itself.
“As one of the five founding members of the Star Alliance, which has since become the world’s largest and strongest global airline network, THAI offers a network of flights to over 70 key destinations on five continents. Since opening its doors, the airline has truly come of age and was recently voted one of the top 10 airlines in the world,” says Niruth Sripawatakul, THAI’s General Manager of Central, Eastern and Southern Africa, referring to a recent survey conducted by luxury US travel magazine, Travel + Leisure.
“It’s no coincidence though that THAI is celebrating its 50th anniversary and we’re firmly establishing ourselves on the African continent. We view South Africa as a key priority destination, not least because of its importance as a gateway to the rest of Africa,” says Sripawatakul, commenting on the influx, particularly of Asian business people, who’re investigating opportunities on the continent.
Among THAI’s greatest strengths is its extensive coverage of key business and leisure destinations throughout Asia and, via its strategically located home base in Bangkok, the airline offers ‘gateway’ services to key destinations within the region.
The popularity of THAI among its passengers over the years has been due to many factors, particularly its emphasis on incorporating its “Thai Touch” into all its flights. The airline’s vision has always been to create an atmosphere and standard of service on its flights that reflect the traditional Thai values of hospitality, with a warm welcome extended to its flying guests.
Sripawatakul concludes, “It’s a very exciting time for THAI, as we continue to support our industry partners and focus on delivering our legendary brand of hospitality and services to more travellers in the future.”
